Private Event Options & Pricing
Recess is far more that the purveyor of alcoholic beverages in the 4 th Street Market. Recess is a craft cocktail Mecca, where fruits are fresh juiced and syrups (and several vermouths and bitters) are house made, where the well brands would be called premium in most other bars, and where bartenders have come through the Detention bar program that has generated two OC’s Best Bartender and one Best Bar Awards.
We’re in the business of making you happy and we’ll do what we reasonably can to meet any request. Pricing is based on our standard prices or a flat fee per person.
Recess is committed to making your event a success. Our standard event packages and pricing are available here. If you want something you don’t see here, talk to us!

Hosted Open Bar – We would serve your guests our normal range of beverages (excluding Craft Shaken Cocktails) at our standard prices, or a flat $50 per person, as agreed in advance.
Hosted Limited Bar – You can limit your Hosted Bar by specifying the products that your guests may purchase. For example, we can hide the rare single barreled bourbons or serve only beer and wine on your tab, leaving guests who want a cocktail to purchase their own. We would serve your guests beer and wine at our standard prices, or a flat $30 per person, as agreed in advance.
Hosted Customized Bar – If there’s a special spirit or keg of beer you want on hand, or you want us to pre-make a huge batch of Margaritas that we serve from the tap, let us know. We would serve your guests our normal range of beverages, curate two Signature Cocktails (dependent upon your pallet) at our standard prices, or a flat $60 per person, as agreed in advance. There may be a special charge or a commitment to purchase all of those Margaritas, but let’s talk.
Hosted Ticketed Bar – One way to limit the possible size of your bar bill is to give guests tickets that entitle them to a drink. We would sell you the tickets in advance at a fixed price. This can be done for either the Limited Bar or the Customized Bar options.

You may let guests be responsible for their own drink purchases. This will slow down service as we process payments and may not be desirable for larger parties, but we’ll do our best to keep your event flowing.

Service Limits: We take our responsibilities as dispensers of alcohol very seriously. We want everyone to have a nice time and to make it home safely. We ask that you help us ensure that no one under age or intoxicated drink alcohol in the 4th Street Market and that you support us if we take action we believe is necessary consistent with this principle.
a. Age Limit: We will check the ages of anyone we believe is close to 25 years old and deny service to those under 21.
b. No Service to Intoxicated Guests: We will deny service to anyone we believe is already intoxicated.
c. Three-Hour Limit: We will limit alcohol service to your party to a three-hour window of time. We do this because we have found that more than three hours of drinking can make guests sloppy or belligerent, which are signs we should (and will) cut them off.
That rarely ends well.
d. No Shots: We will not serve shots. We pride ourselves on serving nice wines and craft beer and cocktails to be enjoyed with food or as a social lubricant. We believe that shots are solely for the purpose of reaching a state of intoxication quickly. We do not want intoxicated guests.
Minimum Purchase Commitment: If you hold your event during regular 4th Street Market hours, then we will ensure we have adequate staffing to handle expected 4th Street Market traffic as well as your party, but we may have to require a minimum purchase commitment in order to justify staff brought on just for your event. Similarly, if you hold your event outside of regular operating hours, we will require a minimum purchase commitment or flat hourly fees to cover labor during the event. When there is a minimum purchase commitment in a Cash Bar event, we hold a card on file to guaranty that the minimum is met. If total spending meets or exceeds the minimum, no charge will be made on the card.
